Ten SICCA members explored the estate of President Andrew Jackson in Hermitage, Tennessee with assistant curator, Ashley Bouknight. Members learned various storage and collections care techniques from this fine institution.

Emergency Management & Disaster Planning Workshop

Location: Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library - Central Library - Browning Room

​

Through lecture, hands-on-activities, webinar clip, participants familarized themselves with the four stages of Emergency Management - Prevention, Preparedness, Response, Recovery. The session also covered potential risks and hazards, and mitigation methods and salvage techniques. Attendees left the workshop with useful handouts, list of resources, and more prepared to combat emergency situations.

A local assistant network consists of collections professionals was also developed during the session. The workshop concluded with a presentation from two guest speakers, Dan Grimm (Chief of Health & Safety/ PIO from the Evansville Fire Department) and Cliff Weaver (Director of the City of Evansville/ Vanderburgh County Emergency Management Agency). Dan and Cliff discussed the common threats southwestern Indiana faced, how first responders could assist in time of crisis, and answered questions from the audience.

3rd Annual Meeting

Location: Old National Events Plaza

Hosted by the Vanderburgh County Clerk's Archives, the 3rd Annual Meeting was an eventful day. Participants visited the vendors fair and enjoyed some refreshments. Amber Gowen, VCC Archivist and Jesicca Newell, VCC Intern introduced the crowd the works of the Clerk's archives and the types of records local government could offer to researchers. 

​

Guest Speaker, Jim Corridan, Director and State Archivist of the Indiana Archives and Records Administration, discussed the construction of the new State Archives building, the Archives new (and first) online catalog, and current initiatives to advance preservation in Indiana.

​

The group was then separated into two sub-groups to discuss collaboration opportunities and collections issues. Following lunch on Main Street, the participants regrouped for a tour of the Clerk's Archives storage.
